computer simulated environments

Virtual reality is a computer-fabricated construct with which one or more people can connect with things three dimensionally while engaging sight, hearing, and (in some measure) touch and locomotion. The sense of believability in this type of world grows with: (1) more scope and depth of human sensory bandwidth actively involved in the interaction between humans and computers (e.g. amount of scope of vision, clarity of visual images, quality of sonic interaction, quantity and degree of body members involved in locomotor and tactile and motion interaction); and (2) greater quickness and intelligence of the human to computer interaction, especially as the behavior of artificially-generated objects better conforms to the tangible and other laws that direct their real-world counterparts. Exceptions to the latter arise for fantasy world applications. However, even in those applications the difference from real-world behavior should be controlled to create a sufficient perception of reality for one to be meaningfully actively involved. If the setting is too bizarre, then meaningful interaction fails. For additional coverage, see lifeinmedia .

Mixed Virtual Reality, sometimes abbreviated as "Mixed Reality" or called "Augmented Reality, is either: a physical setting with sizable overlaid and engaging virtual parts; or a computer-VR simulation with substantive superimposed and engaging real objects beyond just the participating human beings. Mixed reality worlds may include a small number of virtual objects, but these objects should be realistic and cognitively significant for one participant.
